As temperatures cool, construction on the Dow Center expansion is starting to make visible changes. The project is still on schedule to be completed in May 2020.
The most recent construction took place on the old cardio room exterior wall and the main hallway. This allowed workers to access the current water main and run a new electrical conduit for the area.
Additionally, within the last few weeks, the exterior wall foundation was dug and filled with steel rebar and concrete, making it easier to picture just how groundbreaking this expansion will really be.
“Hopefully, by Monday we should see a lot of the steel supports for the walls start going up,” said Athletic Director Matt Arend.
During homecoming, alumni and students had the opportunity to sign one of the steel beams that will be used in construction. This beam will be visible at the entrance of the new expansion, making it one of the first noticeable changes when people enter the new front doors.
With a similar feel to the athletic facilities of Calvin University and Adrian College, the expansion of the Dow will also keep Albion College very competitive in the MIAA. Both Adrian and Calvin made similar additions to their athletic facilities in 2009 and 2014, respectively.
