Your Guide to Career Fair 2017

Every year the Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business and Management partners with the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service to bring top business corporations and graduate schools to Albion College. This year the event will be held on September 12 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Ludington Center.

Over 40 businesses and graduate schools will be attending this year’s event. Below we have each attendee listed with information that will help you decide which organizations you need to talk to.

Make sure to visit the Career and Internship Center to polish your resume and dress business casual at the Career Fair to leave a lasting impression. Campus Safety will be providing transportation from campus to the Ludington Center.

Graduate Schools

Michigan State University College of Law

According to usnews.com, Michigan State University College of Law is tied as the 96th-best law school. They specialize in family law, indigenous law and intellectual property and communications law. Michigan State Law School also offers their students the opportunity to receive dual degrees. They have reported that 28.2 percent of their students are employed after they graduate.

Western Michigan University School of Public Affairs and Administration

According to usnews.com, Western Michigan University School of Public Affairs is tied at 115th in the best schools for public affairs. They offer three different programs: a master’s degree in public administration, a Ph.D. in public administration and undergraduate minors in nonprofit leadership. There are also a variety of scholarships that are offered to students.

Central Michigan University Masters of Science in Administration Program

According to cmich.edu, a Masters of Science in Administration will help you in purchasing, regulatory concepts, administrative law, and strategic planning and acquisitions best practices. Central Michigan University’s program requires 36 credits for graduation with each credit costing $575 each.

Eastern Michigan University College of Arts and Sciences

Eastern Michigan’s College of Arts and Sciences has 191 programs and 18 degrees for graduate and undergraduate students. Many of the programs they offer are similar to Albion’s programs and departments. Eastern Michigan is located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, approximately one hour away from Albion.

Wayne State University Law School

According to the usnews.com, Wayne State University Law School is tied as the 100th-best law school. Located in Detroit, the school has 373 students, about 35 percent of which are employed at graduation. According to law.wayne.edu, they are set apart by their civil rights, entrepreneurship, environmental and international programs.

University of Toledo College of Law

According to usnews.com, the University of Toledo College of Law is tied as the 132nd-best law school. They are located in Toledo, Ohio, and have 179 students enrolled full time. Their employed-at-graduation rate is 38.1 percent. They offer specialties in business law; clinical & experiential education; criminal law; diversity & inclusion; and health law.

Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law

According to usnews.com, Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law is tied as the 88th-best law school. They are located in Indianapolis, Indiana and have 564 full-time students. Their employed-at-graduation rate is 40.9 percent. They offer a Doctor of Jurisprudence, Masters of Law, a doctorate of juridical science and a Masters of Jurisprudence.

Grand Valley University School of Public and Non-Profit Administration

This program offers a Master of Public Administration, Master of Health Administration, Master of Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership. The program’s classes average 20 to 24 students with courses offered in the day and evening.

University of Detroit Mercy School of Law

University of Detroit Mercy School of Law is located in Detroit. They have 453 full-time students enrolled. According to law.udmercy.edu, they “strive to produce graduates who are learned in the law, ethical, committed to serving others, and prepared for the demands of practice.”

University of Notre Dame Law School

According to usnews.com, University of Notre Dame Law School is tied as the 20th-best law school. The school is located in Notre Dame, Indiana. They have 599 students enrolled and has an employed-at-graduation rate of 60.9 percent. The University of Notre Dame Law School offers dual degree programs in law and business as well as law and engineering. They also have a legal aid clinic that provides students with practical experience.

Valparaiso University School of Law

Valparaiso University is located in Valparaiso, Indiana. They have 328 full-time students and an employed-at-graduation rate of 55.7 percent. They offer law clinics in civil, criminal, domestic violence, juvenile, immigration, mediation, sports law, tax and post-conviction. Valparaiso University School of Law offers three dual degree programs that average from three to seven years in length.

Ross School of Business – Master of Management

The Master of Management degree from the Ross School of Business is a 10-month program. According to ross.umich.edu, the “program offers an action-based curriculum, high-impact leadership development, and a dynamic, purposely-designed career search preparation program to power your potential and help you land your ideal job.” The Ross School of Business is a part of the University of Michigan.

Ross School of Business –  Specialty Master’s Programs, Master of Accounting Program, Master of Supply Chain Management

According to usnews.com, Michigan Ross School of Business is the 11th-best business school. They have 801 students enrolled full time and 430 enrolled part time. They have departments and concentrations in accounting, consulting, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, general management, healthcare administration, human resources management, international business, leadership, manufacturing and technology management, marketing, production/operations management, organizational behavior, portfolio management, real estate, supply chain management/logistics, quantitative analysis/statistics and operations research and technology. This program also offers master’s degrees in accounting, management, entrepreneurship and supply chain management.  

The George Washington University – The Graduate School of Political Management

According to gspm.gwu.edu, “Our students regularly connect with leaders in advocacy, communications, and politics inside and outside of the classroom. The GSPM alumni network permeates the upper echelons of elected politics, public affairs, NGOs, issue advocates, and trade associations around the world.” They offer master’s programs in political management, legislative affairs and strategic PR as well as graduate certificates in digital politics; global public relations; PAC’s & Political management and public relations.

Michigan State University School of Human Resources & Labor Relations

The Michigan State University School of Human Resources & Labor Relations offers master’s and doctorate degrees. Their classes average 15 to35 students, and they offer a dual degree program with the Michigan State University College of Law.

DeVos Graduate School at Northwood University

Northwood Graduate Schools offers a Master of Science in Finance and a Master of Science in Organization Leadership. They also offer a Master of Business Administration and a general motors executives MBA. They offer a variety of options to complete your MBA. They have an accelerated program, traditional, evening, weekend and online options.

Businesses

Young Leaders Initiative/Motown Mission

The Young Leaders Initiative is a Christian based non-profit that provides opportunities for individuals to participate in economic disaster recovery work in Detroit. The mission costs $300 per person, which includes housing and food for a week.

City Year

City Year group works with youth in high-poverty areas. Their goal is to provide students with the support they need to graduate from school and reach their goals. City Year is a part of the AmeriCorps network and serves students in Baton Rouge, Jacksonville, New Hampshire, Miami, San Jose and Tulsa.

Mercy Volunteer Corps

The Mercy Volunteers Corps works with the Sisters of Mercy of the Americans and the lay women and men of Mercy Volunteer Corps to assist individuals who are economically poor. They have sites in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Detroit, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Sacramento, San Francisco, Savannah, St. Michaels and Guyana.

Capuchin Franciscan Volunteer Corps

Capuchin Franciscan Volunteer Corps helps interns find work that is related to their studies while learning how to work in a professional setting. Interns have the opportunity to receive credit for their work and stipends are provided for travel.

Christ the King Service Corps

Christ the King Service Corps is a faith based community who serves people in Detroit. Their goal is to create a better future for their neighbors. They offer service placements in teaching, food pantry assisting, community organization, residential advising, social work, Head Start, school-based prevention specialties, Head Start assistant teaching, job coach/classroom instructing, community programs managing and workforce associate volunteering.

Misericordia Home Heart of Mercy

Misericordia Home Heart of Mercy is a community that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They specialize each individual’s care to meet their needs and ensure they live a quality life with dignity and respect.

Mercy Home for Boys and Girls

Mercy Home for boys and Girls offers three different programs: the Youth Residential Program, Aftercare and Friends First Mentoring. They also have opportunities available in fundraising.

Americorps VISTA Albion

The Americorps VISTA Albion was a project started by Albion College, the City of Albion and community organizations. This is an effort to help revitalize Albion. Check out other Pleiad articles about Americorps VISTA Albion.

Kroger

Kroger looks for individuals who want to serve others and build relationships. They look for driven individuals who are driven and want to work towards their future. They have opportunities in store management training, manufacturing career training, information systems and services, engineering, auditing, human resources, accounting and pharmacy.

Willis & Jurasek

Willis & Jurasek is an accounting and consulting firm in Jackson and Grand Rapids. They offer services in accounting; tax; business transactions; state and local taxes; software solutions and dashboard solutions.

Hantz Group

Hantz Group is a Michigan based financial company. They offer payroll services, commercial insurance, business banking, business accounting, entity structure, executive compensation, corporate retirement plans and successful planning.

Grant, Millman & Johnson, P.C.

Grant Millman & Johnson, P.C. is an accounting firm in Novi, Michigan. They offer services in assurance and attestation; tax and financial planning; bookkeeping and QuickBooks Support; CFO/controller services; employee benefit plan audits; estate; trust and gift taxation; exit and transition strategies and consulting. They look to provide growth to their employees professionally and personally.

DTE Energy

DTE aims to enrich students studies by providing them work experience that will prepare them for the professional world. They offer internships in engineering, finance, accounting, computer science and marketing. Their internship program has a 4.0 out of 5.0 rating on indeed.com.

HelloWorld is a marketing agency in Southfield, Michigan. They use technology and marketing strategy to create ads will accelerate their companies growth. Their portfolio includes many high-end companies such as Canada Goose, Royal Caribbean and Marriott.  They have locations in Detroit, New York, Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles. Their internship program has a 3.2 out of 5.0 rating on indeed.com.

United Shore

United Shore is a mortgage lending company in Troy, Michigan. Chemical Bank is a publically traded company with locations across Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. They offer personal banking, business banking and wealth management. According to indeed.com Chemical Bank has a 4.1 out of 5 rating.

Rehmann

Rehmann is an accounting and advising firm located in Michigan, Ohio and Florida. They work in 14 different industries and provide four different services. They have won multiple awards for best places to work in Metro Detroit and West Michigan.

Auto-Owners Insurance Company

Auto-Owners Insurance Company is an insurance agency that is headquartered in Lansing. They pride themselves on challenging interns in  Information Technology, Actuarial, Accounting, Claims, Underwriting, Purchasing, Marketing and Sales. They look for students in their junior or senior year. Internships.” According to indeed.com, Auto-owners Insurance Company is ranked, 3.7 out of 5.0.

EY works in 14 different industries and provides 6 different services. Their internships provide you the opportunity to build a network and knowledge that will help you advance your future goals. They look for interns that can think on a global level in exchange for providing an inclusive environment and development opportunities. EY had 4.0 out of 5.0 stars on indeed.com.

Bell’s Brewery

Bell’s Brewery is a Michigan based brewery that is family owned. They believe that their employees are apart of their family and therefore deserve the best care. Bell’s Brewery has been awarded as one of the best places to work.

PwC is an audit and assurance, consulting and tax service. They believe in corporate responsibility and have been awarded one of the best places to work. PwC is ranked 1 on Vault.com for accounting firms.

Alro is a steel corporation based out of Michigan. They pride themselves on providing their employees with on the job training that will allow them to surpass their goals. Alro wants their employees to grow personally and professionally.

Morgan is a senior from West Bloomfield, Michigan, majoring in finance and professional writing. She is currently the Director of Strategic Planning for a non-profit called Fleece & Thank You, which provides pediatric inpatients with no-sew fleece blankets.
