Natalie La Rose is a triple threat: singer, songwriter and dancer. She also happens to be the headlining act for Albion College’s 2017 Big Show. The Amsterdam native moved to Los Angeles at only 20 years old to pursue her dream of becoming a singer.
Since then, La Rose has gone on to gain national and global acclaim for her hit single, “Somebody” (a song inspired by Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” according to La Rose) which she released in 2015. The single, which peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Top 100, has over 143 million views on her YouTube channel.
In 2013, La Rose signed to Republic Records, the same music group that boasts names like The Weeknd, Ariana Grande and Florence + The Machine.
When La Rose moved to LA, she found work as a dancer, even starring in music videos like “Dedication to My Ex” by Lloyd. As you can see in her own videos, La Rose is clearly a very talented dancer, promising an exciting and high energy show next Wednesday when she takes the stage for Big Show.
After her success with “Somebody” in 2015, La Rose went on tour with the girl-power group Fifth Harmony. In an interview with the magazine J-14, La Rose spoke positively of the experience, “I’m very honored to be a part of such a great project!” she said.
Later that year in June, La Rose released her second single, titled “Around the World” featuring rapper Fetty Wap. That same year she gave a performance at the Latin American Music Awards.
Since then, she has been at work on new music, and has been featured in several other songs. In 2016, she released a song titled “Rollercoaster” featuring Flo Rida. Later in 2016, she was featured on Tiësto’s “The Right Song” and starred in the music video.
La Rose has some powerful vocal talent. Inspired by 90’s R&B artists, she delivers strong vocal performances as well as some high-energy dance moves.
Just this year, La Rose won the European Border Breakers Award, given to emerging artists. In the past this award has gone to the likes of Mumford and Sons and Disclosure.
Next Wednesday, April 12th, La Rose will take the stage at Washington Gardner Auditorium to perform for Albion’s campus. Tickets can be picked up from the CPO office on the third floor of the KC.
