On Tuesday, March 31, the Albion College Union Board unveiled the Big Show act for 2014: Detroit-based pop artist Mike Posner. The show will be held Monday, April 21st at the Dow Center.
Posner, a Detroit native, launched his music career in 2010 with “31 Minutes to Takeoff,” an album which scored three Billboard top 100 singles. Not content to rest on what could be many pop acts’ only noteworthy addition to music, Posner is playing a few shows in advance of his new album, “Pages.” Luckily for Albion College students, Posner’s tour includes a stop at Albion College.
Posner’s stop at Albion comes a few weeks after the end of his “Unplugged” tour, in which he promised to give fans stripped-down and intimate renditions of his songs, in addition to Q&A sessions. Time will tell if Albion’s stop will take the same format.
Neon Hitch, a British pop singer, will open the set. She has yet to drop her debut album, so should she become a big act, the 2014 big show will be a victory for the hippest at Albion College, who can see her before she becomes famous.
Jimmy Maier, Dearborn Heights junior and president of Union Board, was excited about the announcement.
“After months of consideration Union Board is proud to present Mike Posner and Neon Hitch,” Maier said.
The Pleiad detailed the process Union Board takes to bring the Big Show to Albion in an article a few weeks ago. Maier added more insight into this year’s approach, as well.
“We sent out a survey before Christmas break and took [the results] into consideration,” Maier said. “We also use a website that anyone can use called concertideas.com and we select the genre and range that we’re looking for. Then, we send a list of who Union Board thinks campus would enjoy to our middle agent.”
Keep your fingers crossed that Big Sean makes an appearance, as he is fond of doing when artists he works with perform in Michigan. Big Sean recently made a guest appearance on Posner’s track “Top of the World.”

I took a huge dump this morning when I woke up. It sounded better than Posner’s music.
I remember when this guy was a one hit wonder… 4 years ago.
