When you hear “Eh-sexy lady!” from Korean rapper Psy’s international hit “Gangam Style,” Donna Randall is probably the last thing you think of. However, because of a video that has become popular across campus, the student body will be hard-pressed to separate the two.
On Oct. 29, the Albion College Youtube page posted a video of Albion College students, staff, and faculty taking part in a music video that parodied Psy’s “Gangam Style.” The video, called “Briton Style,” was designed for to two reasons: for the entertainment and unification of the campus and to attract the attention of prospective students.
The idea of the video originally came to Zach Kribs, Mason sophomore, who serves on the Student Marketing Committee.
“It took us three weeks to actually put into action,” Kribs said. “I knew that it was big and thought it would be a good idea.”
Since the video has been posted, it has received over 3,600 views and it is still rising. The video is currently the fourth most viewed on Albion College’s Youtube channel, which consists of 198 videos.
“I guess someone showed it to their high school in a class of about 80 students,” Kribs said. “All the students say they want to go to Albion now.”
Among the faculty involved was Andrew Christopher, psychology professor and chairmen of the department. Kribs convinced him to participate.
“I’m not going to watch it,” Christopher said. “I know I’m a bad dancer and I already know that it’s embarrassing.”
Faculty weren’t the only Britons present in the video. Brian Weiss, Livonia junior, was also in a scene that many have deemed the highlight of the video, with Weiss grooving in the middle of a circle of dancing girls.
“That was literally spur-of-the-moment,” Weiss said. “Maria Gill, who is in marketing said, ‘Oh, here’s an idea! Let’s put Brian in the center and let a few of you dance around him!”
Though Weiss joked that being in the video was one of the worst decisions of his life, he said doing the movie had one major highlight.
“At least I can say I was co-star of a video with Donna Randall,” Weiss said, “Not many people can say that.”
