Albion College is hosting the 2012 MIAA Jamboree track meet this season.
The Albion College track and field team performed well in their last meet at the Marv Frye Invitational in Delaware, Ohio on Saturday April 7th. There were strong performances Chelsea Anthony, Ludington senior and Kristin Nelson, Iron Mountain junior who scored a combined 20 points in the hammer-throw.
“We’ve been to some very competitive competitions this season so I expect that we will have a good showing at the Jamboree,” said head coach Lance Coleman. “The league is a lot more balanced this year than it has been in the past, so I think we will have our work cut out for us.”
There were three records broken for the women’s track team this year. Amanda Weaver broke records in the 3,000 meter run and the 3,000 steeplechase while Chelsea Anthony broke the record for the hammer throw.
“I’m expecting a great weekend; I’ve been improving every week and this past week of practice went really well,” said Anthony. “This Saturday I’m expecting some really great things. That goes for the whole team as well.
The Britons look for strong performances from their distance runners this weekend. Brad Baker, Ann Arbor sophomore has had a strong this season running distance events such as the 1500 meter dash.
“Week after week people have been achieving new personal records, and constantly improving,” said Baker. “Running on the home track against MIAA rivals should bring the best out of everyone”
“We have a lot of athletes that can go out and win this weekend,” said coach Coleman. “Right now it’s just a matter of going out and doing it.
