Get To Know Your Greeks—Sororities elect their newest presidents.

The sorority chapters welcomed their newest chapter presidents and vice presidents these past few weeks.

Alpha Chi Omega
Mariah Fiorillo, Lake Isabella junior

When did you join Alpha Chi Omega?
I joined Alpha Chi Omega as a freshman during formal recruitment.
Have you held any other positions in the house? How did that influence you accept the role of president?

• Vice President of Risk Management
• Executive Board
This position required me to be the main person in charge at all of our off-campus events. Most importantly the position gave me the opportunity to sit on our Executive Board and I have loved being one of the leaders in the house.
What are you looking forward to the most about being president?
I am so excited to have been given the opportunity to lead the Beta chapter of Alpha Chi Omega. This position will allow me to give back to my sisters; my time in Alpha Chi Omega has truly enriched my college experience because of all of the girls I am lucky enough to be surrounded by. I am really looking forward to getting to work with the other presidents on campus; I think we have a really strong group of women leading each sorority.
What is your favorite memory with your sisters?
I think my favorite memories include my new member period and all of the times I have spent competing in Anchorsplash, Derby Days, and Greek Week etc with all of my sisters.

Alpha Xi Delta
Krysta Schroeder, Gross Pointe Woods junior

When did you join Alpha Xi Delta?
Formal recruitment, spring 2010
Have you held any other positions in the house? How did that influence you accept the role of president?

• Song leader
• Chapter Life Vice President
I planned sisterhood events and parties, and I overlooked everything to make sure that the bonds of sisterhood were strengthened. I think past roles helped me to where I am now, because it asks a lot out of you. You have to be not necessarily strict, but more professional with your sisters. You also have to make sure laws and regulations are abided by.
What are you looking forward to the most about being president?
As AZD’s president, it’ll probably bring me more self-confidence and self-reliance. The position will give me a chance to learn how to possess leadership capabilities. It will also help me work on my ability to collaborate and work to better the group as a whole. I’m also looking forward to working more closely with fraternity headquarters and to grow Greek Life as whole.
What is your favorite memory with your sisters?
Probably my favorite memories are just being together with my sisters and laughing about random things. The many laughs we’ve shared over the years are my favorite part. My life would be completely different without my sisters. AZD has helped me figure out who I am as a person. I don’t know what I would be without it. It’s hard to put into words how much AZD means to me without experiencing it, or experiencing Greek life in general. I hope every girl gives Greek Life a shot.

Delta Gamma
Beth Congdon, Fenton junior

When did you join Delta Gamma?
Second semester freshman year, spring recruitment
Have you held any other positions in the house? How did that influence you accept the role of president?
• COB [Continuous Open Bid] Director

• Director of Recruitment Records
• Vice President Social Standards
These positions allowed me to become familiar with many aspects of the house as well as become more involved. I was able to get a better understanding of how the house was run and the dynamic between officers and directors. Holding two director positions and an officer’s position beforehand prepared me to take on the responsibility of president as well as made me more comfortable with accepting the responsibility.
What are you looking forward to the most about being president?

I am looking forward to being even more involved with every position and activity in the house and helping my chapter in any way I can!
What is your favorite memory with your sisters?

I have too many. Some of my best memories with my sisters have formed during Anchorsplash, Greek Week, Formal, and Powderpuff! However, I have also had some of my most fun times with my sisters doing the smaller things like studying, watching movies in our lodge, eating at Baldwin, and meeting on every Monday night!

Kappa Alpha Theta
Amber Myers, Midland junior

When did you join Kappa Alpha Theta?
Second semester freshman year, spring recruitment
Have you held any other positions in the house? How did that influence you accept the role of president?
• Assistant Membership Chair
Being the Assistant Membership Chair influenced my decision to accept the President/CEO position because it taught me the value of confidentiality, problem solving, and objectivity in organizations. I strongly feel that every organization’s leader—not just the President—needs to be able to exhibit those qualities for their organization to function efficiently.
What are you looking forward to the most about being president?

Being off campus has had an immense impact on my outlook for the coming year. I haven’t seen some of my sisters since last May. The distance between campus and us has encouraged me to place so much more value on sisterhood. I am mostly looking forward to being back on campus and being a part of Greek activities again. Since my initiation, there have been wonderful young women who have served our chapter – I aspire to fill in those shoes, while working collectively with my sisters to spread some Theta love around Albion, and to make memories that will last for a lifetime!
What is your favorite memory with your sisters?
My favorite memory thus far has to be spring 2011 run-out when all of my sisters decided [to join Theta].

Kappa Delta
Alice Coyne, Cedarville junior

When did you join Kappa Delta?
I joined Kappa Delta in the spring of my freshman year (2010).

Have you held any other positions in the house? How did that influence you accept the role of president?
• House Manager
• Academic Excellence Chair
Both of these positions helped me learn more about myself and more specifically, about my strengths and weaknesses as a leader. I feel that they helped to prepare me to take on the larger leadership role of president.
What are you looking forward to the most about being president?
I am looking forward to the chance to help shape the future of my chapter and build on the strong foundation left for me by previous leadership. I am looking forward to helping us grow even closer as a sisterhood. I am also very excited to have the opportunity to help the Greek community as a whole become closer. Being president gives me the chance to give something back to the sisters who have given me so much. In my role, I would like to help our chapter to continue to grow as a sisterhood both through further connecting with current members and through gaining new members.
What is your favorite memory with your sisters?
It is hard to pick a favorite memory with my sisters, but if I had to choose one of my favorite memories with my sisters is my bid night. It was an incredibly exciting experience for me. I felt instantly at home with my sisters. It was the first time I really felt at home at Albion College.
