Another Hurdle Cleared— Women sprint to fourth place finish

The Britons battled mother nature and almost set school records in their first conference meet of the season.

The team placed 4th at the MIAA Jamboree April 16th at Adrian College. Ashley Miracle, Redford sophomore, had the best finish for the Britons, placing 3rd in the 400m with a time of 1:01.83.

Dana Koenig, Midland senior, won the triple jump with a leap of 11.23m. However, Women’s Track coach, Hayden Smith, said the score was misreported. The jump would have been a school record.

“She’s actually the one that alerted me,” Smith said. “She jumped 10.23m but the official recorded 11.23m.”

While Smith was happy with the Briton’s fourth place finish, he acknowledged that poor weather impacted the team’s performance.

“The conditions were horrible,” Smith said. “It was 50 degrees and raining with 15 to 20 mile per hour wind. Our effort would have resulted in good times had the weather been better.”

Calvin College won the meet with a score of 996, followed by Hope (933.5), Adrian (647.5), Albion (560.5), Alma (487.5), Olivet (292), and Trine (211).
