The Albion College women’s soccer team defeated the Adrian Bulldogs 1-0 in overtime Tuesday afternoon to advance to the finals of the MIAA tournament. Lauren Beck, Pasadena, Texas., junior, scored the game winning goal and Caitlin Bowman, Augusta senior, recorded the Lady Brits’ 10th shutout this season.
“This was a very important game for us and we are very happy with the result,” Bowman said. “We worked hard and it paid off. Everyone brought their all tonight, and we were able to finish a very important chance in the first overtime.”
It wasn’t until the 99th minute when Ali Oatley, Ann Arbor senior, shot the ball across the middle of the field. Waiting there was Lauren Eckler, South Lyon sophomore, who deflected the ball to Beck. Beck put the ball in the upper right corner of the net for the victory.
“(This was) the most important game of my college career,” Oatley said. “(Adrian) ended our season last year so it was important that we win.”
The Lady Brits will face Kalamazoo College on Saturday in Kalamazoo for the MIAA championship.
