Trick or treat-Dow Center holds Community Day

Last Saturday, instead of being populated by sweaty athletes,  the Dow Center was invaded by penguins, chickens, and Jedi knights.

That’s because the Dow Center hosted Community Day, sponsored by the Office of Alumni Engagement. According to Marie Ames, assistant director of college events, about 80 local children attended the event and 20 student organizations participated by passing out candy.

Additionally, prizes were awarded to the top two costumes and the best decorated table. Amy Sorenson, Owosso sophomore, and Laura Korson, Muskegon sophomore, won the costume contest  and the Student Alumni Association won for best decorated table.

“It was great that so many organizations decided to take part,” Sorenson said. “The community really seemed to appreciate what we were doing. Many parents thanked us for giving the children a safe place to trick or treat.”
