The Albion women’s volleyball team’s best season to date ended with a disappointing loss to Hope College in the MIAA semifinal game on Friday at Hope College. The loss was a three set loss with scores of 25-10, 25-17, and 25-5. The team finished with a record of 17-11.
“The defense and passing were not clicking,” said Melissa Walton, head coach.
Three-time all-MIAA selection Morgan Watler, Novi senior, had five blocks, eight digs and an ace in her final match. Watler is also Albion’s all-time leader in kills with 1,308.
“It was a disappointing way to finish a good season, but Hope’s a good team, and deserved to win,” Watler said.
All-MIAA pick Alexis Brumm, Troy junior, had four kills and a block assist. Brumm posted her best season as a Briton with 209 kills and 112 blocks. Brumm finished the season ranked second in the MIAA in blocks.
Other Britons also were left with a bad taste in their mouth.
“Our true potential wasn’t shown in the semifinal,” said Kelsey Cortright, Jonesville sophomore.
Looking to the future, the return of experienced players will bode well for the Britons next year.
“We’re returning six juniors and are very optimistic about next year’s team,” Walton said.
