Record: 4-4, 8-11 overall
This week: With their league record at 500, the Britons will hope for good luck on Good Friday when they play Hope at home. On Saturday, Albion will have another doubleheader against the Dutch in Holland.
Last week: Despite Mother Nature holding off the rain, the Sunday doubleheader against Alma was postponed. Albion split their first two games with Alma on Saturday, before the four-game set was postponed.
Key player: Winning the first game in Saturday’s Alma doubleheader, Ryan Gunderson, Grosse Pointe senior, allowed nine hits and four walks, with five strikeouts.
-SOFTBALL-
Record: 1-5, 8-12 overall
This week: The Lady Brits go on the road and play Saint Mary’s. Currently, the Belles are third in the MIAA and boast a 4-1 league record and 18-4 overall.
Last week: Though Albion scored seven runs in the second game in their weekend doubleheader against Hope, the Lady Brits could not compete with Hope. The Lady Dutch won the first game 10-3 and the second 12-7.
Key player: Allison Smart, Manton senior, had four runs in the weekend series against Hope. The veteran outfielder scored two homeruns. This season, Smart leads the Lady Brits with a batting average of .400.
-MEN’S TENNIS-
Record: 0-1, 4-5 overall
This week: Albion travels to Crawfordsville, Ind. to play in the GLCA Championships.
Last week: The Britons opened MIAA play against league powerhouse Kalamazoo. Albion was swept by the Hornets and lost 9-0. On Wednesday, Albion went on the road to play Alma.
Key player: Danny Frank, Ann Arbor first-year, was the only Briton to win a set in Albion’s match against Kalamazoo forced a tiebreaker but Frank won the second set, 6-3, Frank forced a tiebreaker but lost 10-3.
-WOMEN’S TENNIS-
Record: 1-1, 8-4 overall
This week: Women’s tennis plays Saint Mary’s and Trine on the road. The Lady Brits do not return home until April 22 when they play Kalamazoo.
Last week: In a close match, Albion beat Oberlin College 5-4 at the GLCA Championships. The defending MIAA champs were 1-1 in league play and faced Adrian on Wednesday.
Key player: At the GLCA Championship, Shelley Zamler, Beverly Hills sophomore, won her No.1 singles match. Zamler also won at No.1 doubles with partner Anna Gundersen, Whitehall junior. Gundersen also won her singles match in straight sets.
-WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD-
This week: The Lady Brits are preparing for the MIAA Jamboree when the team will travel to Adrian
Last week: Albion collected 51 points at the Marv Frye Invitational to finish seventh out of 14 teams.
Key performers: Chelsea Anthony, Ludington first-year, was the top performer for Albion at the Marv Frye Invitational. Anthony won the discus throw, throwing 123’ 3”. Katie Spencer, St. Ignace senior, also placed second in discus.
-MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD-
This week: Albion will travel to Adrian to compete in the MIAA Jamboree.
Last week: Albion placed 11 out of 14 teams at the Marv Frye Invitational.
Key performers: The Britons had three sixth place finishes at the Marv Frye Invitational: Reggie Poindexter, Chattanooga, Tenn., first-year in the 100 meter; Taylor Polzin, Sturgis first-year in the 5,000 meter.
